Pleading ignorance of the rules is not acceptable when it comes to showing horses at Equestrian Canada sanctioned horse shows. Every member of our national governing body should keep themselves up to date on rule changes from the organization.

In this Horse Sport article, horse show steward Susan Adey, provides a review of Equestrian Canada’s rule changes for the 2019 season. Every rider, trainer, coach, groom, owner and official should pay close attention, learn the rules for themselves, first-hand, and not rely on anyone else to keep them informed.

Adey talks about changes to general regulations with regard to para-equestrian competition; on-site emergencies; equine anti-doping examination, sample collection and testing; and officials’ presence on the show grounds. Further, she discusses some discipline-specific rule changes for dressage, para-dressage, eventing and hunter/jumper.

Plus, a link is provided to the full list of 2019 Equestrian Canada Rules. So, no excuses….start reading up so that you don’t find yourself in hot water with the horse show officials.
