The Story of Fairwind: A Year in the Life of a Wild Yukon Foal is the tale of a wild foal and the experiences joy and challenges in her first year as she learns from her family how to survive as a wild horse in the Yukon, Canada. This children’s book, featuring the beautiful illustrations of Yukon artist Jean Taylor, is based on a real-life wild horse family living close to Whitehorse in the Yukon. Each of the four seasons brings new growth and understandings for Fairwind, and the book features the scenic beauty of the Yukon as the background for the story.
The book also includes an information section on the history of wild horses in the Yukon and a section on ecology and behaviour of wild horses, which serves as a useful teacher or parental information guide. The target reader age range is 3 to 10 years, but anyone who has followed the Yukon wild horses, or loves horses in general, will enjoy this book.
The creator of the book, the Friends of the Yukon Wild Horses Society, is a registered Yukon non-profit society which helps protect the wild horses in the Yukon by monitoring, documenting, studying, and creating public awareness of the horses. Profits from the book’s sales will be used to support these efforts.
