Robinson Outreach at RiverCross Ranch (ROARR) in Springbank, Alberta, recently received a special gift ‒a horse donation from Helping Alberta Wildies Society (HAWS). The sweet-tempered bay gelding named Cheyene was rescued from a campground near Sundre four years ago after it became displaced from its band. HAWS created a video of his arrival at the farm for its considerable number of followers, which to date has been viewed over 41,000 times!
ROARR is a registered Canadian charity and an Equine Assisted Learning ranch dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of at-risk youth and seniors through the healing power of horses. By offering Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) programming at no cost to participants, ROARR removes financial barriers and ensures that those who need support most can access a safe, welcoming environment for growth, connection, and confidence-building.
Jessica McLauchlin, the executive director of ROARR, said, “We are incredibly grateful to HAWS for their recent generous donation of the wildie named Cheyene. This remarkable addition not only enriches our programming, but also represents the resilience and spirit that we strive to nurture in every participant. The story of this wildie has deeply resonated with our community, generating an outpouring of support and a significant surge in engagement across our Facebook platform.
“As our online presence grows, so does awareness of the importance of accessible mental wellness programming. We are proud to continue serving our community and grateful for the partnerships and supporters who make this work possible. Together, we are creating hope, healing, and opportunity — one horse and one participant at a time.”
