Bob and Pam Cramers of Alberta had a dream of retiring and enjoying their morning coffee while watching horses train on their own track and even though they aren’t quite there yet, they have put together a world-class facility, a first in western Canada, to feature training and rehab services for thoroughbred racehorses and other breeds, all in one location.
This 2018 article from Canadian Thoroughbred follows their 20 year journey in developing Westana. This incredible facility provides over 150 acres of pasture, 55 individual paddocks with shelter and a custom round pen. There is a training facility that has an enclosed computerized Equicizer, a rehab centre with a salt water therapeutic equine spa and it’s own veterinary clinic which can perform x-rays, ultrasounds and minor surgeries.
Bob Cramer’s goal is to assist in creating the best thoroughbred racing in western Canada and, of course, to raise his own foal that goes on to win the marquee race at Century Mile.
