‘Hump Day’ for the Horses

you're listening to an article from horse canada.com. ‘hump day’ for the horses by: kim izzo |. a new brunswick farm went viral with an adorable video of its new camel chasing after a group of horses, desperate to be part of the herd. the farm owners posted the hilarious video to instagram, showing the camel trying in vain to hang out with the horses. for their part the horses are having none of it and gallop away, maybe terrified of the strange one-humped wonder chasing them. the owner of the animals, josee gautreau, runs llama-zing adventures, which offers zoology therapy to visitors who pay to interact with llamas, horses, alpacas, goats and yes, camels. advertisement scroll to continue with content in the video, which is posted to we love animals news, gautreau explains that her horses had never laid eyes on a camel before shamy arrived and tried to make friends. you can hear gautreau explaining on the video that “when they saw him, they freaked out. they ran away from him, they thought he was one big monster.”. in the video, shamy is running behind the herd as if to say, “wait for me, friends!” gautreau adds that when she got shamy he was well-socialized, but also a like a “little bratty kid.” he was apparently accustomed to petting zoo animals, so he probably figured the horses at llama-zing would be receptive. but as his owner noted, shammy had no social cues and didn’t speak “horse.”. but after a couple of weeks shamy and the horses got used to each other and as we can see at the end of the video, the camel is snuggled up with the horses in the barn. he also has made a horse called toledo his bff, and we see the two of them running through the snow (which he loves – did you know that camel ancestors once roamed the arctic? neither did we). it’s a great lesson in not judging someone on their appearance!
