Emily McNulty Receives Memorial Equine Award

Equine Guelph is proud to announce that Emily McNulty, a third-year student in the University of Guelph Equine Management program, has been awarded the prestigious 2024 Roger L’Heureux Memorial Equine Award.

McNulty will receive two online courses through Equine Guelph valued at $625 each (Certificates are available in Equine Science, Equine Welfare and Equine Business – six courses complete the certificate). This award recognizes Emily’s dedication, passion, and outstanding contributions to the equine industry.

Described by peers as willing and eager to learn, Emily says, “I love to hear other perspectives on training techniques and management practices to be able to adjust my practices in the best interest of my horses.”

Emily has been a devoted horse owner for nearly a decade and has actively competed in barrel racing and western games for the past four years. Her commitment to the equine world extends to her participation on the Guelph Western Equestrian team, where she has competed in western horsemanship with the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) for three years. This experience has broadened her skills and provided a valuable learning curve from her regular riding style.

Emily’s passion for the equine athlete in both training and competition drives her continuous pursuit of education in the equine field. She is currently working towards achieving her western riding levels, with the goal of one day coaching young riders in both riding and horse care for competitions.

Through the Equine Management program, Emily has completed several courses offered by Equine Guelph, including nutrition, first aid, large animal rescue, and sickness prevention. These courses have equipped her with practical knowledge that she applies to her own horses and the RCMP Musical Ride horses, where she works during the summer months while they are on tour.

Emily is thankful to be the recipient of the Roger L’Heureux Memorial Equine Award and says, “I will be able to use the knowledge afforded to me for equine athletes as Roger did with his standardbred racehorses.” Emily’s commitment to using her knowledge for the betterment of equine athletes aligns perfectly with the spirit of this award.

The Roger L’Heureux Memorial Equine Award was established in loving memory of Standardbred driver, trainer and groom, Roger L’Heureux by David L’Heureux and Crystal Fountains Inc. The award is presented annually to a student who demonstrates exceptional dedication to the equine industry, mirroring the passion and commitment of Roger L’Heureux.
