Recently Allen Pogue emailed one of the “Beautiful Jim Key” booklets from 1900ish. I read it several years ago and enjoyed rereading it. One section talks about Dr. Bill Key teaching the horse the letter “A”. I’ve attempted sporadically to teach letters to Zelador. Lauren Bode, the animal communicator, told me Zelador said he KNOWS the alphabet. Hmmm…

Well, twice in the past ten days or so I’ve asked Zelador (in his stall) to touch the letter A which I set against the stall wall. I’ve also set out big letters of his name. Tonight I set out A and Z. I asked for A and he touched it. We repeated this and he enjoyed the “touch/eat a treat” game. Then I asked for Z. He did it. Back to A, then back to Z. He was sort of done with the game. I had Z on the east wall and A on the south wall so he had to move a bit to touch one or the other. Well, wouldn’t you know, Zelador touched A, but NOT the A on the stall floor leaning against the wall. I’d totally forgotten that his name was in chalk on the stall wall in BIG letters. He had touched the A on the wall. Remember, I’d asked for the Z. I laughed and told him he was brilliant. I gave him a treat and ended the game.

I’m sitting here shaking my head in disbelief. What a horse!!!! Could he be that smart? Or is this stuff really easy for him? Does he REALLY know the alphabet????
