Horse World Meets Barbiecore

The upcoming 'Barbie' movie has inspired equestrians to "think pink" with bling for us and accessories for our horses.

It’s time to bust out the pink, fuchsia, and magenta outfits for you and your horse in anticipation the hotly (pink) Barbie movie released this Friday, July 21. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve already seen the trailer:

or images of the film’s stars, Margot Robbie and Canadian heartthrob Ryan Gosling plastered across the Internet and on social media. The whimsical and by all accounts critical darling is a feast for the eyes. As for all that pink? The term ‘Barbiecore’ has been making the rounds for the last year at least, turning up in everything from the fashion runways of Europe to the décor pages of the splashiest renovation magazines.

It turns out that we horse people are not immune to the Barbiecore obsession. Whether it’s bling for us, or blankets for them, horsey girls and women having decided to “think pink.” If you’re late to the party, no fear, we have some suggestions for you on how to rock the look in and out of the ring.

If you every played with Barbie (and who didn’t?) you might recall the doll’s palomino horse, Tawny. Barbie was such a committed equestrian she even had her own horse trailer! For young fans of Tawny there’s an animated movie from 2013 called Barbie & Her Sister in a Pony Tale that captures a little girl’s love of horses (including Barbie & co).

In the current boom in all things Barbie, some horse and pony owners are tacking up with pink accessories. Take this “real life Barbie horse” in an Instagram post from New Zealand tack shop Punk Ponies. The Barbiecore look is brought to life in pink glitter saddle pad, halter, and exercise boots.

Closer to home you can opt for a more subdued nod to Barbiecore with this pink crystal wave browband from Greenhawk.

Western riders can choose a host of accessories including a breastplate with matching spur straps with a delicate pink lily design available at Pleasant Ridge.

Whether you choose to hop on the Barbiecore bandwagon or not, the brightest pink of this colour trend is a much-needed dose of joy.
