The truly horse-crazy among us aren’t satisfied with real riding and grooming; some like to continue their equestrian escapades online. For you, there’s a new game coming in September that should help ease your riding cravings away from the barn.

Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori is an open adventure game that allows gamers to unravel the mystery of the “wind horse.” We’re not sure what that means exactly, but the game’s publisher, Mindscape, and the developer, Aesir Interactive, describe the experience as “epic.” According to the press release, the game is set in 13th century Mongolia, where gamers step into the role of a young courier rider. Players breed horses, tame wild ones, and train them to aid them in their charting of the Mongolian landscape, where they will need to strategically plan their routes through different biomes of beautiful, yet harsh terrain, and master the challenges of the wilderness to complete their missions.

During the game players cultivate a nomad camp, build yurts, manage important items and resources, and train and care for their horses. Throughout their journey, players will take on quests that test their capabilities and require riding mastery and thoughtful planning in order to build their legacy as one of the greatest ancient courier riders in 13th century Mongolia.

“The Windstorm series has connected with so many people over the years, and we’re looking forward to entering a new generation in the franchise with Windstorm: The Legend of Khiimori,” said Wolfgang Emmer, CEO of Aesir Interactive. “Our team has been hard at work refining and innovating gameplay to deliver the most realistic horse gameplay experience, approved by experts. We’re eager for players to experience the legendary bond between horse and rider, whether they are a longtime fan or discovering the adventures of Windstorm for the very first time.”

The online trailer certainly looks lush, and the horses are beautifully rendered:
