There have been plenty of idiot tourists who routinely act like morons around the King’s Guard and their mounts that keep watch over St. James Palace and Buckingham Palace.
We’ve seen the jerks who pull on the reins, lean in for selfies or try to otherwise distract the animals despite the posted warning signs that read, ‘Beware, horses may kick or bite. Don’t touch the reins.’ This latest lunatic was a young woman, allegedly from Spain, who thought she was being hilarious by quickly opening and closing her umbrella in front of the horse to startle it. She is seen in a video on The Daily Mail flapping her umbrella and then turning to her friends taking pics or vids with their phones and laughing at her own cleverness.
Suffice to say the King’s Guard who was mounted on the unflappable black horse wasn’t amused. He is seen patting his lovely black mount reassuringly and then pressing the nearby alarm for assistance. Soon two guards on foot arrive. The mounted soldier points out the tourist to the foot patrol, they march over to her and her cohort and she gets a stern talking-to. “We’d appreciate it if you don’t flap that in the horses faces,” said the guard, adding, “They’re nice to look at, but please be respectful, they are doing a job.” Needless to say, the offender wasn’t laughing during the humbling exchange.
