Blue Bloods star Tom Selleck is hoping that once his 14 seasons of the hit cop drama wraps, his next role will see him swinging his leg over a horse.
In an interview in Parade, Selleck is quoted as saying that not only does he want to make another western, but specifically one created by showrunner du jour Taylor Sheridan, who co-created the mega-hit Yellowstone. “A good Western’s always on my list,” Selleck told the magazine. “I miss that; I want to sit on a horse again.”
Selleck is no stranger to cowboy roles, having starred throughout his career in films and TV series such as The Sacketts, Concrete Cowboys, The Shadow Riders and Quigley Down Under. The Magnum PI star said of the 1990 film Quigley, “That was a big Western and he was clearly an iconic hero. I don’t mind saying I was a little anxious to play a part that maybe John Wayne could have done better.”
Also in the nineties was Selleck’s turn in the made-for-television movie, Last Stand at Saber River, which went on to nab the Bronze Wrangler at the Western Heritage Awards. The last time Selleck sat on a horse while on set was in another movie of the week in 2003 called Monte Walsh.
And in real life, Selleck, who turns 80 in January, and his wife, Jillie Mack, live on a 65-acre ranch in California. Their daughter Hannah is also an accomplished equestrian who competes in major show jumping competitions around the world.
