My Little Pony fans have a lot to look forward to in 2022 when the beloved franchise expands, adding 500 more minutes of content. According to reports, the expanded content includes a weekly YouTube series, a Netflix series and two Netflix specials. The My Little Pony brand also adds a fresh (and Canadian) voice to the mix, with the casting of Never Have I Ever star Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, who will voice one of the characters.
The Netflix series is called My Little Pony: Make Your Mark, an eight-episode show that follows the adventures of five ponies. The streamer is also adding a 44-minute special to air in May, followed by a second in November. Canadian studio eOne produces the films for Netflix.
The YouTube series My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale consist of five-minute episodes that will be released each week ‒ and there are a whopping 70 of them!
And it wouldn’t be a children’s series without the requisite merchandise tie-in and Hasbro, which owns the brand, is getting set to release a new toy line to hit stores soon.
In other equine-related entertainment news, Oscar-winner Jordan Peele (Get Out), is set to traumatize us once again with his next project, Nope, which follows two Black ranchers who train horses for Hollywood movies. The trailer is scary enough, but doesn’t give away much in terms of plot:
What we will say is for any horse person watching, the most terrifying element would be attempting to gallop a horse past all those floating balloon men as they whip around in high winds. Now that’s a horror story!
The film is set to be released on July 22.
