The Netflix series The Witcher features a horse named Roach as one its characters. And to the delight of the show’s many fans, Netflix posted an “exclusive interview” with the horse on Twitter along with the caption: “Roach has something to say. Please drop an apple (apple emoji) in the comments.”
In the one-minute clip, the handsome chestnut gelding is seen in close-up acting like the star equine he is. Roach licks his lips, sticks his tongue out and neighs for the camera. Celebrity watchers are champing at the bit to decipher if Roach’s loose lips are in fact dishing dirt on his co-star, the human actor Henry Cavill (Superman), who plays his rider on the series. Cavill has a thing for horsey-girls after all, having briefly dated American superstar and horsewoman/animal lover Kaley Cuoco (Big Bang Theory and The Flight Attendant) and recently split after a long-term romance with show jumper Ellen Whitaker of the famous UK equestrian dynasty.
The Witcher is based on a series of fantasy novels that centre on a medieval world and the legend of Geralt of Rivia (Cavill), a famous monster hunter known as a “witcher” and Ciri, the princess who loves him, played by UK actress Freya Allen. Roach’s real name is Zeus (pronounced Zey-oos) and Cavill wondered in an Instagram post “Why don’t we have an Oscar for best supporting horse?”
The Netflix interview clip with Roach the horse has already gathered up over 125K views and some amusing comments. Season two of The Witcher is set to be released sometime in 2021.
