you're listening to an article from horse canada.com. free seminar on “what to know about your newborn” by: cornell university college of veterinary medicine |. what: barbara delvescovo, dvm, mrcvs, dacvim, clinical fellow in large animal medicine, will teach attendees how to anticipate and identify potential problems in newborn horses. when: tuesday, december 14, 2021, 6 – 7 p.m. where: via zoom, registration required here. advertisement scroll to continue with content the event is free and open to the public. the checklist for evaluating and caring for a newborn foal is extensive. beginning the first moments after birth, there is much to look out for. understanding what is normal and abnormal is crucial as we humans help our animals begin what will hopefully be a healthy and happy horsey life. the next installment of the college of veterinary medicine’s equine seminar series will be held on tuesday, december 14 from 6 – 7 p.m. via zoom. dr. barbara delvescovo received her dvm and master’s degree from the university of parma in 2012 and worked for one year in an equine practice in the area treating mainly standardbred racehorses and eventers. she moved to ireland to complete a one year internship at anglesey lodge equine hospital. she remained in ireland and worked for three years as a hospital and ambulatory veterinarian at sycamore lodge equine hospital. her duties involved racetrack work as well as stud work and management of critical foals in the hospital. she came to cornell for a residency in large animal internal medicine in 2017. since 2020 she has been a clinical instructor in the large animal medicine section and in 2021 she began a fellowship in large animal emergency critical care at cornell. the cornell equine seminar series is presented by the cornell university college of veterinary medicine’s equine hospital, the new york state 4-h horse program and cornell cooperative extension. held monthly, equine experts present on important equine health and management topics.
