The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame announced its Patsy Montana Award recipient for 2002 and it is none other than country music icon and actress Faith Hill.
The five-time Grammy Award winner has appeared and performed on every major award show, including the Academy Awards and the Super Bowl twice, as well as performing for presidents and heads of state. Along with her husband, Tim McGraw, their Soul2Soul Tour franchise ranks among the highest grossing tours in country music history.
Hill’s most recent venture was in front of the camera, starring alongside Tim in the Yellowstone prequel, 1883, which follows the Dutton family as they struggle to cross the Great Plains, coping with thieves, murderers, and bloody attacks from the First Nations tribes before settling in Montana. Even though Hill rode in nearly every episode of the critically acclaimed series, it came after avoiding horses for two decades. The cause of her absence from the saddle was a frightening incident when she was a young woman.
“Most people who ride know this, but never run your horse when they see the barn,” Hill told the website Taste of Country. “Well, I didn’t know that, and I just let my horse Bandit just like — for almost half a mile — fly to the barn. It was terrifying … after that moment I said, ‘You know what? I’m gonna stay off horses for awhile.’”
Active philanthropists, Faith and Tim formed The Neighbor’s Keeper Fund to help strengthen communities by contributing to diverse projects with a primary emphasis on children’s initiatives.
Named after 1987 Honoree Patsy Montana, this award recognizes those whose work in the entertainment field and continue to advance the tradition of the cowgirl in the areas of film, television, music, writing and theatre. Previous award winners include Emmylou Harris, Jessie the Cowgirl from Toy Story 2 and Thelma & Louise screenwriter Callie Khouri, who also created the hit series Nashville.
The Patsy Montana Award will be presented to Hill at the 46th Annual Induction Luncheon and Ceremony on November 15, 2022 at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
