Ontario’s Nicole (Nikki) Walker, a 24-year-old rising star in show jumping, inherited her love of horses, including a penchant for bays, from her grandfather, Frank Stronach, the Austrian/Canadian founder of auto-parts giant Magna International and the Stronach Group, North America’s largest consortium of various horse racing, entertainment and pari-mutual wagering interests.
In this article, which appeared on Horse-Canada.com in September 2018, Walker describes her early days riding, how she started show jumping and her most recent accomplishments including winning the Under-25 National Championship at the Royal. The piece also covers her active involvement in thoroughbred retirement initiatives, her job at the Stronach Group and her goal to ride for Team Canada.
The article also interweaves the story of one of Stronach’s homebreds, the five-year-old Delta Prince (a bay) about to race in the 2018 running of the grade-1, $800,000 Woodbine Mile, a “win and you’re in” for the 2019 Breeders’ Cup.
