Riders know what it means to connect with a particular horse; whether a beloved schoolmaster or an elite show horse, a bond with that special equine is tough to beat.
As it turns out, it’s a feeling that’s not limited to horse people after all. Jonathan Bailey, the British star of the Netflix megahit Bridgerton, was so taken with his four-legged costar that he requested to have him cast as his mount in his next project, the screen adaptation of Wicked.
In a video posted to the official Wicked Tiktok account, Bailey is seen riding Jack, a Friesian horse, and explains, “I went around to see [Wicked director] Jon Chu before we started filming, and I said to him, I said, ‘I think I know who the horse is.’ And he was like, ‘What do you mean?’”
Bailey continues, “It’s Jack, the horse that I’d ridden in Bridgerton, who I had an amazing relationship with.”
In the video, Bailey is seen petting Jack after a successful take during filming. There is also a clip from the finished film of Bailey, who plays Fiyero, galloping in the woods on Jack before halting to the sound of screams.
“People say ‘don’t work with kids and animals.’ But if it’s Jack, I’d say, ‘Take the job. He’s a legend,’” Bailey says admiringly.
The two are such a great pair that Jack and Bailey are in one of the official movie posters. Naturally, it’s our favorite.
