American rapper and superstar Snoop Dogg had a simple goal at the 2024 Olympics in Paris: to meet the horse he saw “crip walking” during the Tokyo Games in 2021. Back then he and fellow funnyman Kevin Hart appeared in segments from US host broadcaster NBC to provide humorous commentary on various sports. And in the dressage video, Snoop and Hart dished on the Grand Prix round of Germany’s Isabel Werth riding Bella Rose. They watched the pair piaffe, passage and do flying changes, but the “crip walking” comment came after Snoop Dogg saw the horse half-passing.
The clip went viral with Snoop excitedly exclaiming, “This horse is off the chain. I gotta get this mother*&%$#r in a video!”
Fast-forward to this summer’s games, and the Dogg is once again adding his unique take to dressage. And given the multiple controversies surrounding the sport, it’s a much-needed moment of levity.
“I’m definitely trying to meet him. Hopefully he’s in the Olympics so I can say, ‘What’s happening?’ to him,” Snoop told Time magazine, unaware that Bella Rose is a mare. “Bring him a couple of carrots, some apples or somethin’, know what I’m saying?”
But according to The Guardian, Snoop was told by Werth that the mare he was there to see was at home, retired.
Not one to be deterred, Snoop Dogg arrived at Versailles, site of the equestrian competition, with his onscreen bestie Martha Stewart (a horse owner herself) to watch the dressage. Both were decked out in equestrian garb complete with white breeches and gloves, tailcoats and helmets. “I am interested in the horses that dance and I want to give them some carrots and apples … make sure they’re fed before they do their thang,” he told NBC during a segment. Snoop and Stewart also chatted about their visit to the dressage ring, with the musician admitting to being fearful of horses.
“I’m still scared of horses,” Snoop told the lifestyle guru.
“Have you ever ridden a horse?” Stewart asked the rapper.
“No,” said Snoop. “I’m scared.”
“So we’re gonna do dressage,” Stewart explained to him.
Snoop was seen giving a standing ovation to Werth, who took home the team gold medal aboard Wendy, and he did find one horse to feed carrots to on the show grounds. We think the star should cover future dressage competitions – maybe the Royal Winter Fair should reach out to his agent!
