Equine Canada is thrilled to announce an exciting line-up of top quality educational and development opportunities for equestrians, taking place at the 2016 EC Annual Convention in Montreal, QC from April 20-24.
The 2016 EC Annual Convention will host a wide range of coaching workshops and officials clinics, open not only to current and aspiring EC coaches and officials, but to any and all members of the equestrian community who enjoy continuous learning and personal development.
The clinics will offer additional advantages to current and prospective EC licensed officials and certified coaches. Current officials can use the clinics for updating or upgrading purposes, while EC certified instructors can claim professional development points (3 hours per clinic). Prospective officials can also list their clinic participation as part of a future application to become an EC official.
EC has lined up some of the most respected and experienced clinicians and facilitators in North America to lead a wide range of engaging and invaluable workshops and clinics, including:
NCCP/EC Competition Coach Workshop
Led by Victoria Andrew, whose long list of credentials includes National Master Learning Facilitator, EC Certified Coach, and EC Senior Hunter Judge, will lead participants through the three equestrian specific modules of the NCCP Competition Coach workshop:
• Designing an Equestrian Sport Program
• Managing an Equestrian Sport Program
• Training Mental Skills for Equestrian Sport
High Performance 1 Coaching Modules
A total of four High Performance 1 Coaching Modules will take place, facilitated by two leading professionals in the field:
Ozzie Sawicki has a long and illustrious career in sport, with titles including Canadian Chartered Professional Coach, Canadian Eventing Team High Performance Advisor, and Team Canada’s Chef de Mission from the 2014 Sochi Paralympic Games.
Dr. Hilary M. Clayton is a renowned veterinarian, author, researcher, clinician, competitor and coach with areas of specialty that range from locomotor mechanics to exercise physiology to conditioning programs for equine athletes.
Sawicki will take participants through the Performance Planning for High Performance Training and Advanced Practice Planning modules, while Dr. Clayton will lead the Developing Athletic Abilities – Equestrian Athlete and Analyzing High Performance modules.
Officials Clinics
The 2016 EC Annual Convention will host Hunter Judge, Jumper Judge, Course Designer and Steward clinics that provide an engaging curriculum covering expert analysis, best practices, and more. The clinics will be led by the following distinguished clinicians:
Hunter Judge Clinician Philip De Vita’s long list of credentials include United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) ‘R’ Hunter, Hunter Breeding, Equitation, and Jumper Judge, USEF ‘R’ Hunter and Jumper Course Designer, FEI Level 3 Jumper Judge and FEI Level 2 Course Designer. De Vita’s career highlights include judging and designing courses for the ASPCA Maclay Finals at Madison Square Garden and the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, FL, and joining the course designing team for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
The Jumper Judge Clinician will be Marjorie Dennis, an exceedingly qualified Canadian judge who has held an EC National Senior Official Judge’s card in Hunter, Hunter Hack, Hunter Equitation and Jumper for 30 years, and an FEI ‘I’ card for Jumper for 15 years. Dennis has officiated at such international events as the Washington International Horse Show and the FEI North American Junior and Young Rider Championships (NAJYRC) and assisted with the management of the 1999 Pan Am Games in Winnipeg, MB.
The clinician for Course Design is EC Senior Hunter and Jumper Course Designer, USEF ‘R’ Course Designer, FEI Level 2 Course Designer, and 2015 Jump Canada Official of the Year, Chris Brandt, who was named the assistant course designer for the exciting show jumping competition at the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games and has designed and built tracks at top venues across North America, from Spruce Meadows to HITS Arizona.
Jan Stephens is the clinician for the Steward Clinic. An EC Senior Steward, FEI Level 3 Jumping and Eventing Steward, and FEI Level 2 Reining Steward, Stephens has been heavily involved in the education of Canadian Stewards and is a course director for FEI Level 1 and 2 Stewards. Her international experience includes World Equestrian Games, Pan Am Games, and Olympic Games, and she is currently the Canadian Steward General in the disciplines of jumping, eventing, and reining.
