On day three of the Allen Pogue Clinic Ann Clifford rode Socs for the first time. Allen mentioned on day one that giving the horse a job to do while riding is very helpful (to the horse and the rider!). He pointed out that when the horse is pushing the big ball his mind is engaged on the activity and he’s not as concerned about a person on his back.

Socs has a very checkered history with riders. Before Ann met him he’d bucked several off and went through a fence. Ann’s been working with Socs (from the ground) for ten months. Lately she’s been looking for just the right opportunity for her all-important first ride.

This sequence of photos shows the prelude to the ride and the ride itself. Congratulations Ann!!!!
