Thursday was relatively quiet. I started off the day with a long a low “massage dressage” as Bruce calls it, on Woody. He felt good and relaxed, lots of swung.
Anne Marie videoed so I could review.
In the afternoon I had a lesson with Jackie Brooks during ring familiarization. We worked on using my core for half halts to prep for flying changes, halts and mediums.
Woody still felt very relaxed which was a treat!
Anne Marie videos that too. Very helpful.

shires

My newest sponsors are ‘Shires’ and I am very excited to be partnering with them for the first time at Rolex in 2016.

Megan rode King Brian beautifully during the afternoon. I gave them a lesson and they fit right in with all the Rolex horses. An exciting pair for the future!

Friday is stressage day! I started very early so I could ride him at 7am. He was no where near as relaxed and I really didn’t succeed in getting long and low in trot. I did get him a bit better in canter. I decided to walk him the long way home and do a little canter along the hills near cross country. I gave him some omega alpha chill ultra when we got back to his stall.

He was much better for my warm up. We achieved long and low in trot and canter before attempting our competition frame and lateral work.
I’m so blessed to have Jackie and Clayton help me warm up, it takes a village????

I have been wearing Charles Owen hats for as long as I can remember. They are safe and COMFORTABLE

Woody is maturing and used the atmosphere to our benefit. He was very obedient but also expressive. I was so pleased to get more over step in out extended walk. Our left pirouettes are harder and he has improved them in a short period of time.
I was sorry to not produce the halts we are capable of and the changes could be better. I feel we are on our way to peaking at the exact right moment. I have been wearing Charles Owen hats for as long as I can remember. They are safe and COMFORTABLEI have withdrawn Woody from the rest of the competition. That was always the plan if the spring season went well although it has been very difficult to ‘stick to the plan’. No use in risking Woody when he has nothing to prove in the jumping phases. It was a great opportunity to ride dressage in an electric atmosphere and under the eye of world class judges but I know it will be hard to be here and not run cross country tomorrow.

voltaire

Voltaire Saddles keep both Woody and I comfortable in all three phases.

I’m so grateful for the support of my wonderful owners and coaches as well as sponsors and team mates. I am looking forward to Bromont in June with many dressage shows along the way and show jumping lessons with Johnathan Millar.

It’s been great to catch up with all my sponsors in the vendors village here at Rolex. I am excited to watch, cheer and help in any way for all my fellow competitors combating this challenging cross country course tomorrow!!

Let’s go rio!! Go Canada!
