Augustin and Christine Walch of W. Charlot Farm in Stratford, ON, are “absolutely thrilled” that their stallion Cabardino has been named USEF Leading Hunter Sire for 2017, while Augustin once again earned the title of USEF Leading Hunter Breeder.

Augustin has been breeding horses for over 40 years, first in his native Germany and since 1980, in North America. “This is the 12th time in 14 years that Augustin has led these rankings,” said a proud Christine.

Cabardino (Carpaccio – Klarina, by Gaspari), their 19-year-old bay Holstein Premium stallion, topped the list by a healthy margin with 18,183 pts over his nearest rival with 15,052 pts, the Canadian-bred Popeye K (who is by Voltaire, the sire of another of the Walch’s stallions, Viva Voltaire).

Cabardino’s top offspring showing in the hunter ranks south of the border include Carero, Sabrina, and Capriccio. Carero and Capriccio were bred at W. Charlot Farm, while Sabrina was bred by Tapestry Farm in Wisconsin and was also 2012 Sally B. Wheeler National Hunter Champion in the US.
