Chief executive officer of the U.S. Equestrian Federation, Chris Welton, has resigned his post after 18 months on the job. On January 12th, USEF issued a press release announcing Welton’s immediate departure, and named Bill J. Moroney as his interim successor.
A founding member of the U.S. Hunter Jumper Association, and president since 2003, Moroney announced in a letter to the membership that he will take a leave of absence, with his duties being assumed by officers of the USHJA Board of Directors.
Moroney has a wealth of experience including serving as a director of the USEF and member of its Executive Committee, vice president of the National Affiliates Working Group, chair of the Audit Committee, chair of the Planning Committee, co-chair of the Mileage Rule Revision Task Force, chair of the Horse Welfare Initiative Task Force, and co-chair of the Pony Committee. He was also a member of the National Breeds and Disciplines Council, Show Jumping High Performance Committee, Budget and Finance Committee, Hearing Committee, Licensed Officials Committee, Continuing Education Committee and Steward/TD Committee.
Criteria for the selection of the next permanent USEF CEO was surely at the top of the list for USEF president Chrystine Tauber, and the rest of the Board, at the organization’s annual meeting, which took place January 13-16 in Lexington, Kentucky. Stay tuned for updates.
