Serious riders recognize the Hanoverian as one of the most prominent and successful horse breeds in the world today. These versatile performance horses have won every class of medal at the Olympics and at other prestigious competitions all over Canada, the US and Europe.

Now, through an online and live auction, the RCMP Foundation will be putting as many as 40 horses from the world-famous RCMP Musical Ride Breeding Program on the auction block.

In a first for the RCMP Foundation, many of the horses will be sold during a 30-day online auction beginning on August 24th and continues through September 23rd. In addition, a number of select RCMP Breeding Program horses will be offered for sale at a live auction slated for October 13, 2018, in Ottawa.

“We’ve worked closely with our colleagues at the RCMP Musical Ride Centre and we’ve reached out to people such as Canadian Olympic dressage medalist, Gina Smith, to assess the individual horses,” said the President of the RCMP Foundation, Sylvie Madely. “This auction will make a lot of people happy, and both the Breeding Program and the Foundation’s programs for vulnerable children and youth will benefit.” “There is a tight relationship between the RCMP and its Foundation,” according to Superintendent Mike Côté, Officer in Charge of the RCMP Musical Ride & Heritage Branch.

Horses listed for 2018 RCMP Foundation Horse Auction will range in age from yearlings to 9-year-olds. As well, there will be brood mares, brood mares-in-foal, retirees from the Musical Ride, and some that do not quite meet Musical Ride conformation and colouring standards.

Because these horses are bred specifically for the world-renowned RCMP Musical Ride, they are versatile and athletic warmbloods.

“Our last auction was in 2015, so there is a surplus of horses from the Breeding Program,” added Ms. Madely. “Adding an online auction is a great idea. We think everyone should have the opportunity to own one of these magnificent horses,” she said.

Auction bidders for auction – both online and live – will be required to register in advance. More information can be found at www.bit.ly/RCMPFoundationAuction.
