Kelly Soleau of Marlborough, CT, and her own Itty Bitty kicked off the final week of competition at the Vermont Summer Festival with a win in the $10,000 Overland Welcome Stake, presented by Manchester Designer Outlets, on Thursday, August 6. The Vermont Summer Festival continues through Sunday, August 9, at Harold Beebe Farm in East Dorset, VT. Highlighting the final week of competition is the $50,000 Vermont Summer Celebration Grand Prix on Saturday.

Thursday’s immediate jump-off class welcomed 32 entries over tracks built by Ken Krome (USA). The top five all conquered Krome’s 11-obstacle first round to post double-clear efforts.

Soleau hails from Connecticut, but trains with Amy, Jonathan and Ian Millar at Millar Brooke Farm in Perth, ON. She and Itty Bitty, a 10-year-old Canadian-bred mare (Fuerst Star x Take the Mickey), set the time to beat early from the fifth position in the original order. After breaking the tape clear in both rounds, her jump-off time of 38.45 seconds landed them in the lead.
