Calgary, Alberta – Canadians take the top three positions at the 2006 FEI Children’s International Jumping Final held at Spruce Meadows in Calgary, Alberta during their Oktoberfest horse show.

Riders from around the globe gathered at Spruce Meadows for four days of show jumping which started on October 24th with a Warm-Up competition that allowed riders to get acquainted with their mounts many of which were borrowed for the occasion.

Taylor Bland of Calgary, AB won the competition on her mount Tango owned by Las Marismas Sport Horses with no faults and a time of 29.100 seconds. After finishing second in both qualifying rounds held Wednesday and Friday, Bland was the point leader of the group of 16 combinations that qualified for the final round held on October 28th. Though the slate was wiped clean for the final competition, Bland bettered her previous performances topping the class for the win.

In second place was Ben Asselin also of Calgary, AB on Serrano owned by Jenna Thompson. Show jumping is in Asselin’s blood, his father is Canadian Show Jumper Jonathan Asseling and his mother is Nancy Southern who is the Executive Vice-President of Spruce Meadows. Asselin’s seventh and ninth place finishes in the qualifying competitions left him in sixth position coming into the final. Saving the best for last, Asselin’s fourth clear round of the show in a time of 31.120 gave him second place.

Jake Krembil on Schomberg, On rode his own mount Caretino to third place. This was Krembil’s second time at the Finals after having placed second in the farewell competition last year on a borrowed mount. Though Krembil finished the first qualifier in 19th position his seventh place finish in the second qualifier gave him just enough points to squeeze into the Final. With no faults and a time of 31.520, the thirteen year-old Krembil earned third spot.
