Ottawa, Ontario—The Canadian Eventing Coaching Committee is pleased to announce the 2009 Canadian National Coaching Symposium will be held on November 21–23, 2009 at the Royal Canadian Riding Academy in Cedar Valley, ON.

 

Symposium presenters are

 

• George Morris—the chef d’équipe for the United States Equestrian Team 2008 Olympic Gold medal jumping team, and arguably the leading trainer of jumper, hunter and equitation horses and riders in the world,

 

• Ingrid Klimke—a dressage and eventing expert and a team gold medalist from the 2008 Olympic Games in eventing, and

 

• David O’Connor—the Canadian Eventing Team’s International Technical Advisor, leading International trainer and individual gold medalist from 2000 Olympic Games.

The 2009 National Coaching Symposium will combine practical sessions including special discussion topics warm-up exercises for jumping, dressage, eventing; introducing the gymnastics; strategies for riding show jumping courses; optimizing all round performance; improving technique and rider position; technical questions for cross country and preparing horses and riders for the 2009 FEI dressage tests.

 

The symposium will feature a special evening panel titled Hong Kong Coaching Strategies, facilitated by Peter Gray and featuring symposium presenters, with special guests Terrace Millar, chef d’équipe Canadian Show Jumping Team, and Eric Lamaze, 2008 Olympic gold medalist.

 

“I am thrilled that a coaching symposium of such high calibre can be offered in Canada,” said Gray, the Coaching Symposium coordinator, who was a former Canadian Eventing Team member and former national team coach. “The presenters are the world’s very best offering amazing educational experience to coaches and horsemen from all disciplines.”

 

Pre-registration is requested using the Symposium registration form, which will be available online. Full Symposium details and the registration form will be available on the Equine Canada website at www.equinecanada.ca under Disciplines Eventing by June 1, 2009. The pre-registration deadline is October 30, 2009.
