Equestrian Canada (EC) has officially named the 39 athletes who will represent the Canadian Equestrian Team (CET) in seven FEI disciplines at the FEI World Equestrian Games ™ Tryon 2018 (WEG), set for Sept. 11-23, 2018 in Mill Spring, NC:

Bringing the true spirit of #PonyToPodium to life, the team announcement event was hosted during the Trillium Championships at the Caledon Equestrian Park in Palgrave, ON on Sept. 1, 2018. EC Director of Sport and CET Chef de Mission for WEG 2018, Jon Garner made the announcement, with the help of over 50 youth athletes competing at the Trillium Championships. “I am incredibly proud of our CET athletes, who have worked extremely hard to earn their berth to the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games and represent Canada on the world stage,” said Garner. “Our team is made up of a dynamic range of talented athletes from seven FEI disciplines who demonstrate how extraordinary equestrian sport really is. Each discipline provides a unique perspective on the phenomenal bond between humans and horses, yet the common threads of gender equality, inclusiveness and passion for sport solidify the CET as one united team.”

Garner continued, “It is a privilege to work with such a strong, hard-working and dedicated team, and I look forward to celebrating their success in Tryon.”

Historically, Canada has achieved impressive results at WEG, achieving nine medals since the inception of the Games in 1990. Most recently, Paralympian and Canadian Disability Hall of Fame Inductee, Lauren Barwick (a Langley, BC native currently residing in Reddick, FL) brought home individual silver and bronze medals in para-dressage from the 2014 edition of the Games in Normandy, FRA.
