Welcome to Day Three of the 2019 Woodbine racing season!

BEST BET: SILENT CONSORT – 7TH RACE (5-2)

LONGSHOT: MAKEMINEAMANHATTAN – 1ST RACE (8-1)

RACE 1-  7 furlongs; claiming $16,000

4-6-2-1

4 – CAPE ROMANCE was winter raced a few times up to February at Penn National. he had a couple of minor prizes in longer races. He shortens up to 7 furlongs and should have a fitness edge over many of these.

6 – MAKEMINEAMANHATTAN has front end speed and he sure showed it in a workout on April 21 when he sizzled 5 furlongs in 58 3/5, a bullet for that morning and distance. He can put up a good fight even if it is his first race since November.

2 – EMPEROR JOHN raced in Florida with owner/trainer Steve Owens and he won big at this distance (on dirt) in March when dropping in for $6,250 claiming. He will be an early force from the get-go.

RACE 2- 5 fur; maiden claiming $7,500

6-7-1-4

6- DONTDROPURCROP is the most experienced filly in the field and while that sometimes is not a good thing, she has come close on many occasions. Her owner/trainer John Ross won a race on opening weekend with a quick one.

7 – QUEEN OF THE NORTH has had plenty of workouts getting ready for a big class drop. She may be outrun early at the distance but can pick up pieces.

1 – SILENT GOLD is another one in the field getting some class relief off the winter layoff. She had a couple of decent runs to begin her career last spring for trainer Jim Smith.

RACE 3- 5 furlong, claiming $8,000

1-5-2-3

1- ROCKBARTON figures to be heavily bet as he drops in class for his return from a September-April layoff for Robert Tiller. Eurico da Silva gets the mount and this 5yo gelding figures to be prominent from the outset.

5 – LOVE IN THE FOREST is a delicate type it appears with just 2 starts in 2018. he won his career debut in 2016 at this distance by more than 6 lengths. he will wear blinkers for his first race in 10 months and he has had 2 solid workout times for half a mile.

2 – GATOR SPY wants a bit more distance but he had a speedy workout upon his return to training on April 6 and he can come rolling late.

RACE 4-  5 fur; claiming $25,000

6-5-2-3

6 BROADWAY BONNIE won her career debut at 5 furlongs against maiden allowance fillies, Ontario sired, and then chased eventual stakes winner Sister Peacock 2nd time out. She has had 3 workouts for trainer John Charalambous and she is offered for c aliming price for the first time.

5 – VERRADASSAH comes from the strong Kevin Attard stable and she won her maiden in December when adding Lasix; she will have to hurry at the distance but has had a lot of prepping.

2 – ISHIYAYA will wear blinkers for the first time in this first race since November. She won her maiden at this distance last summer and tackled some tougher gals in subsequent outings.

RACE 5- 6 fur; claiming $7,500

1-6-5-3

1-DHAFEERA is a classically bred mare by Shamardal and she won a maiden allowance at Santa Anita on grass a year ago. These days she is racing for low claiming and she comes off a 10 length win at Turfway on an all weather surface, leading all the way. She looks like lone speed.

6 – ROMANTIC BLISS had a brief stint at Penn National in the winter and she was a gem of consistency at Woodbine and Fort Erie last year.

5 – ADOPTED FAMILY could pick up some pieces as she has run well when fresh in the past and was doing well in sprints at Woodbine last fall.

RACE 6- 6 fur; claiming $7,500

2-6-3-4

2 NORTHERN COLORS posted a series of Beyer Figures in the 60s last year although she was blanked in the win column in 7 outings. She had a 5 furlong workout recently, her 5th prep of the spring.

6 – FLASHINTHEPANTS was winter raced on a dirt surface at Penn national. She probably likes this track better and her fitness has to be respected.

3 – BEL AYR BAY is speedy and she worked fast on April 13. Not sure she can win this off the layoff but include her in trifectas, supers.

RACE 7- 5 furlongs; Claiming $7,500

7-1-2-4

7 – SILENT CONSORT should have enjoyed her winter vacation and she had a fairly productive campaign in 2018 when she started the year against better. She has lots of workouts this spring for good layoff trainer Mike Doyle.

1 -SKY VISION is quick and ran a big race off the winter layoff last year. Apprentice Kimura should have her going quickly out of the gate.

2 – SPANISH BLESSING was in the top three 7 times last year although most of those were at Fort Erie. Her last 2 workout times have been solid.

RACE 8 – 7 fur.; optional claiming

8-3-5-6-7

8 – IT’S FATE is a Sam-Son Farms’ homebred who is offered for claiming for the first time. He was winter raced and trained at Fair Grounds and his fitness, along with the slight class drop, works in his favour. This race is 7 furlongs and it is more likely the winter raced horses will be a bit more fit for the distance.

3 – SILENT JET ended last year with a solid maiden victory and he was in Florida training all winter so he should be fit.

5 – GET THE FACTS is an impeccably bred grey colt by Tapit who was claimed for just $16,000 in Feb. in Florida. He could like the Tapeta surface at Woodbine and he had trouble in a pair of races last September here on the turf.

6 – CASH DIVIDEND won his career debut in Sept. on Tapeta and he has been trying grass recently in Florida.

For trifectas and superfectas consider DESOLATOR.
