SOVEREIGN AWARD WINNERS 2018 – Vote totals and more

JOCKEY CLUB OF CANADA

It was a lovely night out at CHATEAU LE JARDIN in Woodbridge, ON for the SOVEREIGN AWARDS presented by the Jockey Club of Ccanada, Thursday evening.

Jason Portuondo hosted the event which attracted horsepeople from all points west, east and south. The western Canadian contingents, in from Alberta and Manitoba had reason to celebrate with SKY PROMISE winning Champion 3-year-old male and ESCAPE CLAUSE winning Older Mare.

Sky Promise’s contingent included trainer Robertino Diodoro, Tim and Christine Rollingson, Clayton Wiest and Britnee Hone, Rick Wiest and Dalyce Wiest and Norm and Natalie Tremblay.

Tim Rollingson had an emotional speech that began with a salute to SKY PROMISE and telling the crowd how much joy he had brought his “rag tag” group of owners. He also talked about ailing rider RICO WALCOTT, who is recovering from having a brain tumour removed.

The Windsor Boys and John Sikura were in from the US to celebrate a 2nd Sovereign for their sprint mare MOONLIT PROMISE and Bonnie Baskin, owner of Blue Haven Farm in Kentucky was present with her farm’s VP Adam Corndof.

There were very special and moving presentations to GUS SCHICKEDANZ and the late BILL GRAHAM, each who were presented with the EP TAYLOR AWARD OF MERIT.

WONDER GADOT, bred by David Anderson, was a deserving winner of HORSE OF THE YEAR and Champion Three-Year-Old Filly. By Medaglia D’Oro from Sovereign nominated mare LOVING VINDICATION. Wonder Gadot is owned by Gary Barber and trained by Mark Casse.
