PROSPECTIVE DOING  ‘AWESOME’ CONFIRMED FOR DERBY
Contreras will ride

John Oxley’s Prospective, the Tampa Bay Derby winner (90 Beyer) will race in the Kentucky Derby after all. The Malibu Moon colt, who was based at Woodbine last year for Woodbine trainer Mark Casse, has been training at Churchill Downs
on dirt for more than a month and reports from there say he is doing ‘awesome’.

The colt, who was 6th in the Blue Grass on Polytrack, was really under a mad scrub and hard ride around the far turn in the Blue Grass and he tried hard to stay in range, but his 87 Beyer Figure was about what he runs.

Casse had said before the Blue Grass  if the colt had not been in the top 5 in the Blue Grass then perhaps he should not be in the Derby, but then again, the dirt is the dirt and Poly is the Poly.

The field should be huge for the Derby:

POLL SHOWS THAT TORONTONIANS PREFER WOODBINE FOR CASINO LOCATION

Toronto, April 17, 2012 – A recently commissioned poll by Woodbine Entertainment Group, conducted by Environics Research Group, shows that 51% of Torontonians surveyed support the idea of a casino at Woodbine.

The survey of City of Toronto residents shows that there is considerably more support for a casino at Woodbine than at other locations. This was particularly apparent in Woodbine’s local neighbourhood of Etobicoke, where there was 60% support.

In contrast, the survey found that the majority of Torontonians opposed a casino in the downtown area – 62% of Torontonians opposed a casino at Ontario Place (only 34% are supportive) and 59% opposed a casino at the CNE (only 37% are supportive).

“We were not surprised with the results indicating Woodbine as the preferred location for a Toronto Casino, particularly by residents of Etobicoke given our social, economic and safety record in the community,” said Nick Eaves, President and CEO of Woodbine Entertainment Group.  “Woodbine Entertainment Group is recognized provincially, nationally and internationally as a premier racing operator. Our successful partnership with the OLG has made Woodbine the most profitable gaming site in Ontario, so expansion to a casino site would be both logical and easily facilitated.”

Woodbine Entertainment Group (WEG) is the largest operator of horse racing in Canada and is recognized as one of the most innovative in North America.  In addition to its two racetracks – Woodbine in Toronto and Mohawk in Milton, WEG operates the Champions Off-Track Wagering network, plus WEGZ Stadium Bar in Vaughan, Turf Lounge in downtown Toronto and Greenwood Teletheatre in the Beach Area of the City.  Remote wagering is also available to customers through HorsePlayer Interactive (HPI), the Company’s telephone and online account wagering service.  WEG offers this service to all Canadian racetracks.  WEG also operates HPItv, a CRTC licensed digital television channel that broadcasts its racing product into homes across Canada.

WEG is committed to being a leader within the horse racing industry and in the communities in which it operates. The corporation has earned industry recognition, multiple awards and customer and community respect for its progressive and leading corporate responsibility agenda.

(Canadian-bred) JOYFUL VICTORY OVERLOOKED STANDOUT IN JONES BARN

Joyful Victory’s body of work on the racetrack would stack up well in any stable: an 11-4-2-2 record for earnings of $555,068 and two graded stakes victories.

But then Joyful Victory is not in just any barn … her stablemate is reigning Horse of the Year Havre de Grace, who, like Joyful Victory, is owned by Fox Hill Farms.

“We know that she is not Havre de Grace,” trainer Larry Jones said. “In this barn, expectations get pretty high, but we are not discouraged with her. We have a lot of hope for her.”

Joyful Victory tipped her hand early last year when she won the Honeybee (G3) by 8¾ lengths and the Fantasy (G2) by seven lengths at Oaklawn Park. Off those efforts, the Tapit filly went off as the favorite in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) and finished fourth behind Plum Pretty.

After the Oaks, Joyful Victory finished second in the Mother Goose (G1) at Belmont Park and then fifth in the Coaching Club of America Oaks (G1) at Saratoga in which she came out of the race with a chip in a knee.

“Things did not go her way in the Mother Goose and then she got hurt at Saratoga,” said Jones, who put Joyful Victory back into light training here last fall.

After nearly six months off, Joyful Victory ran second in a turf allowance at Fair Grounds, won the Tiffany Lass on the main track and ran third in the Azeri (G3) at Oaklawn, all under Robby Albarado, who will be in the saddle Friday when she goes postward in the Hilliard Lyons Doubledogdare (G3).

“In her first race back on the turf, the pace was too slow early,” Jones said. “Then she won that little stake and she got a little tired in the Azeri. I shipped up to Oaklawn only once, but I watched a lot of races and it looked like they all needed a race over the track.”

Joyful Victory has had two works over the main track here as she prepares for her racing debut on Polytrack.

“She has never been on the Poly and we are kind of experimenting with her to see what kind of options we have for her the rest of the year,” Jones said. “Robby has been on her a lot and knows her well and it seems like the whole team has been together with her for awhile now.”

On Friday, Ms. Victory (bred by Bill Graham of Caledon, Ontario)  is in the Doubledogdare…
