Top of the Morning to you! Lots of Comments on yesterday post about some popular Canadian horses…Aiken Trials are fun for Canadians…Joyful Victory!

CANADIAN JOY

JOYFUL VICTORY has her Grade 1 win.
The Canadian-bred Tapit mare, bred in Caledon by Bill Graham, powered her way to a strong win in the Santa Margarita at Santa Anita last evening and became Canada’s newest millionaire.

The grey streak, ridden by the popular ROSIE NAPRAVNIK, drew off in the stretch for her first win at 1 1/8 miles.

She is expected to be let down a bit for the summer before making an assault in the fall.

LUKAS IN CHARGE

The uncoupled entry! It’s often money in the bank for bettors and yesterday 28 to 1 shot WILL TAKE CHARGE  (Unbridled’s Song – Take Charge Lady) beat 4 to 1 OXBOW  IN THE $600,000 Rebel stakes, putting the pair in Kentucky Derby picture. The Beyer was 95.

The late pace crumbled in the Rebel but WILL TAKE CHARGE was not hard to like since he was messed up by a sloppy track race last time but had won a stake at Oaklawn in his previous race.
Oxbow and the winner were both very hard ridden from a long way out so it’s not certain how good the race was.

MAKING HIS MARK
BC bred wins Tempe Handicap at Turf Paradise

MARK (grey gelding) wins in Arizona.

Claimed for $5,000 in October from breeder Swift Thoroughreds, MARK has found his calling on the grass in Arizona. The British Columbia bred by Rosberg – Storm Forecast by Slew Gin Fizz won the $35,000 Tempe Handicap at Turf Paradise yesterday for Terry Clyde and Jim and Linda Sentes.

HERE IS WHAT WAS GOING ON AT GLENN TODD’S DERBY BAR & GRILL when MARK won:
(from the Derby Bar & Grill Newsletter)

Saturday afternoon at the Derby Bar and Grill a near capacity crowd of local racing fans were gathered  to watch a number of top races around country.

Three of those racing fans were longtime local horsemen Linda and Jim Sentes and Terry Clyde who had Mark entered in the Tempe Handicap at Turf Paradise.

The Tempe Handicap went as the 5th race on the program which had a field of 9 three-year-olds going one mile on the turf.  Mark who is a BC Bred son of Rosberg out of the mare Storm Forcast, by Swift Thoroughbreds and trained by Mike Anderson who’s mother June was also on hand.

Mark as the DRF chart reads, up close early between rivals, bid for lead between foes on the final turn and drew clear into the lane, then held on gamely to the wire to win by a head.

Well I thought the roof was going to collapse as the large crowd on hand at Derby started a thunderous roar at the head of stretch when Mark struck the lead and nearly everyone in the house rode Mark every step of the way to the wire. It was without doubt a very popular win for the locals.

Dontmesswithkitten owned by Wally Leong and trained by Cindy Krasner by the way ran a very game third in the race to only lose by a neck.
