The End:
Trainer Bobby Frankel passed away on November 16, 2009, at his home in Pacific Palisades, California, from complications of lymphoma, a disease he had beaten about 10 years ago. He had not been seen in public since it recurred about 6 months ago and his assistant for the past 30 years, Humberto Ascanio, had been running his stable for him. According to a friend, he left Cedars-Sinai Hospital Saturday after expressing a desire to spend his final hours at home with his Australian sheep dogs Ginger and Punch. He was only 68 years old.
A Stellar Career:
Frankel was one of the top trainers for over 40 years and a 5-time winner of the Eclipse Award as best trainer. For 8 of the past 9 years, his barn won at least $10 million, including $11.7 million in 2008, his last full year training.

Crescent rolls and Cascading flows
Woodbine on Sunday and the longshots continue to come in – the fields are huge, the Fort Erie horses mixed with Woodbine runners only add to the confusion and it’s simply tough to pick winners.
One winner who was easy to select was the A.P. Indy gal CASCADING, who ran an 8 on the RAGOZIN SHEETS when she won her maiden and was a total standout in the Glorious Song Stakes on Sunday, the co-featured event.
The filly was hung out wide around the turn but powered to the lead and then held off the closing ROAN INISH (Princess Elizabeth winner) to score her first stakes win.
“It’s great,” said Cascading’s co-owner and co-breeder Ed McGhee. “Hopefully, her best days are yet to come. “Last time, she was stuck on the outside practically the whole race. She didn’t get to the inside. This was much better. She was in position to win this time.”
The two-year-old filly was also bred and is co-owned by Hill ‘n’ Dale Equine Holdings.
She earned a 77 Beyer Figure.
Also on Sunday, CAREM CRESCENT upset MILWAUKEE APPEAL in the Jammed Lovely Stakes for Ontario foalsed 3yo fillies. The latter simply could not get into high gear fast enough to catch the speedy Carem Crescent, yet another stakes winner for Eugene Melnyk and trainer Malcolm Pierce.
EURICO ROSA DA SILVA won 4 races on the card and had his best ride in the Jammed Lovely.
A daughter of DISTORTED HUMOR, Carem Crescent is the 6th foal of Can’t Be Late, a half s-sier to BALLINDAGGIN, the first winner of the Molson Million (now the Woodbine Mile).
The mare also produced stakes winner Miner’s Prize and stakes placed Late Carson.
Carem Crescent ran 7 furlongs in 1:22.18 and that was good for a 90 Beyer Figure.

Double and triple jumps in wagering, attendance led to a prosperous first year at the ‘new’ Ajax Downs in Ajax, Ontario, compete with its 5 furlong dirt track adjacent to the slots parlor.
Quarter horse racing has been around for decades but thanks to slows and the Ontario Quarter Horse Improvement Program, is a sport that is on the up and up.

For 2010, the Lasix program will be introduced to the sport, racing will move from a Saturday/Sunday sked to Sunday/Tuesday and construction will begin on a new barn.
This year, RAMON DOMINGUEZ led all riders with 465 points and over $570,00 in purses.
CLINT CRAWFORD, from Oklahoma, won the leading trainer title with 669 points and ROGER GIRARD, the owner for Crawford’s starters. had the same stats as he led all owners.
