Wagering on the first card of racing at Ajax Downs of 2018 was held on a beautiful spring day and that meant a lot to drawing a nice crowd and plenty of wagering dollars.

The High Point 3-year-old filly of 2017 MAKE ME BODACIOUS makes her season debut in the $25,000 featured race on Sunday May 13, Mother’s Day, at Ajax Downs.
Rick Crispi’s daughter of Bodacious Jess is trained by Tom Dunlap and she won 3 of 12 starts last year and placed in 7 others. Lloyd Norman DeSouza will partner the filly from post 9.
Her sire Bodacious Jess stands at KS Performance Horses in Marmora, Ontario.
The 6th race on Sunday tops day 2 of the Ajax Quarter Horse racing season.
The track has a new PICK 5 bet beginning on race 2 in which the money wagered on the bet carries over to next week should there be no 5 out of 5 winning tickets.
Make Me Bodacious meets another top 3-year-old filly of 2017, GHOST PINES, owned and bred by Gary McNichol. The grey Fire Finder 4-year-old won the Ontario Sires Derby last season over Later Tater and Home to Vegas and she led late in the $101,000 Picov Derby in her final start of the season. Michelle Woodley trains Ghost Pines and Neil Husbands will be riding her for the first time.
Also in this excellent field is the 2017 AQHA Canadian Top Aged Mare ICE FISHN (“Cinder”), a stakes placed Ontario bred owned by Stephanie Keeble and trained by Greg Watson. Cory Spataro rides Ice Fishn.
The 2016 High Point 2yo filly DENALI TALLER OFF is also in the field and she won her 2017 season debut and then was 2nd by a nose in the Ajax Adequan Derby to stablemate LS Prince. Add in a tough pair from the Don Reid stable – SIGN IT DOWN and HOPE RAMBLES ON, and we have the makings of a fabulous featured race.
