Apprentice Sihota, Go Boldly involved
– A scary incident occured in race 6 last night at Woodbine when Maria Gardiner and partners’ GO BOLDLY appeared to clip heels when in tight in deep stretch and fell. The filly appeared to be okay as he got up and was bucking from the saddle that had slipped around her belly.
Sihota was prone on the track for some time and later taken to hospital. The apprentice had just recovered from a broken leg recently and had ridden only a handful of races. The head on replay was shown only briefly as the decision was possibly easy to make following the spill.
DASHINGALLTHEWAY, under right handed whipping from Jono Jones did not keep a straight path in the stretch and appeared to make things too tight for Go Boldly who was trying to rally up the rail. Dashingalltheway was disqualified to last place in the $12,500 claiming event. The race was won by BAYWOODS, who was dropping from $25,000 claiming for Oreilla Stable and jockey Carl Defreitas. The Archers Bay mare, a 5 time winner last year is now 8 for 19 in her career.

81 Beyer for Queen’s Plate prospect
– MR. FORICOS TWO U, a 3yo gelding with two long white stockings on his right fore and hind legs, overcame a bittled up, messy trip to win an Ontario sired allowance race last night in extremely impressive fashion for the team of Rocco d’Alimonte and Frank Annecchini and trainer Catherine Day Phillips. The son of Porto Foricos, who used to stand at stud in Ontario, was bred by D’Alimonte.
Trying 1 1/16 miles for the first time, the gelding was well off the pace set by longshot Celerity’s Summit – some 9 lengths back at one point down the backstretch. He wove his way up between horses along with September Square but he ran out of room around the turn and jockey Justin Stein had to steady and check for a few strides. Once clear, the gelding roared up the 2 path in thes tretch and took off to a 2 length score in 1:44 3/5 – an 81 Beyer Figure. Stein was the gelding’s 4th rider in his 4th career start.

Dogwood Names Mine That Bird’s Brother

– Dogwood Stable, which paid $485,000 for Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird’s half-brother by Yonaguska at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-old sale, has named the colt Brother Bird.
According to a Dogwood spokesperson, the colt, out of the Smart Strike mare Mining My Own, was purchased on a Monday and all shares were sold out by Friday. Brother Bird has been sent to Saratoga, where he will be trained by Todd Pletcher, who called the colt “very self confident.”
INVESTEC EPSOM DERBY NEXT WEEKEND
20 entries remains, 9 trained by Aidan O’Brien
– Aidan O’Brien admits the next few days will be crucial to finalising his plans for the Epsom Derby on Saturday week. The master of Ballydoyle currently has nine of the 20 horses still in the race as he seeks to win the race for a third time.
Stable jockey Johnny Murtagh has yet to decide on his mount after O’Brien’s horses dominated most of the trials in recent weeks. “I suppose everything we have left in are possibles. They all came through their trials well and deserve to have their chance,” he said. “If the ground is safe, we’d love to have plenty of runners.”
“Obviously the Derby is a very important race and we are very lucky to have such a nice few horses this year. Johnny will ride them in their next couple of pieces of work and try to make up his own mind there.
