There was some thought that the undefeated 2yo filly INGLORIOUS, owned by Canadian stable, Donver, would be in the SILVERBULLETDAY STAKES yesterday at Fair Grounds (it was reported in the DRF) but the filly worked a quick 5 furlongs on Monday (entry day) and then was not entered. The daughter of Hennesy was not among the top 3 nominated for champion 2yo filly in Canada.
GENTLE ANGEL, owned by trainer Brian Lynch and Santa Cigana and Danny Bussetto, won her maiden at Gulfstream yesterday in a 5 furong turf dash. The Forest Camp – Starry Lake (Meadowlake) filly was bred by Windways Farm in Ontario.
More Lynching – RULES OF HONOR a homebred for Ken and Sarah Ramsey (who reportedly foal their mares at Darleen Hayes’ farm) won a $25,000 claiming race, off the turf, yesterdat at Gulfstream. The son of Cateinus out of Striking Image by Red Ransom caem from well back to get up for his 2nd career win in his 6th race.
ROSE RUN, bred in Ontario by Fred and Neil McCrary won a $20,000 claiming race at Tampa Bay yesterday. The 7yo mare is by Will’s Way out of Incredibelle and is trained by Joe Davis for the breeders.
NO ACRONYMS, a 6yo Ontario bred mare won a $16,000 event on the grass at Tampa Bay for Petal Power Racing and trainer Jane Cibelli. The Milwaukee Brew – Last Supper filly was bred by Adena Springs.
QUEEN’SPLATEKITTEN, the dark bay colt, very well named, by Ken and Sarah Ramsey is two grass workouts into his training for 2011. The son of Kitten’s Joy – Iteration, Wild Again, is a Queen’s Plate hopeful for his American owners and trainer Brian Lynch (who won the Prince of Wales and Breeders’ last year so he only needs a Plate to compete his triple).
The colt has been working on the Palm Meadows grass.
MOBIL THE GAMBLER, an 18 length winner of his maiden at Charles Town not long ago, won agains yesterday for Herbert Chambers and Richard Morden but this time, was claiming. The son of Mobil won by a handy 4 1/4 lengths and paid a meagre $2.80 to win.
On Saturday, THREE IN THE BAG, the 9-year-old Ontario bred, stakes placed, was unplaced for the second conseucitve race in 2011 in a $7,500 claiming race for trainer David Jaconseb. The son of Silver Deputy is 16 for 51 in his career and was a winner on Jan. 2 at Aqueduct.

CALIBRACHOA, claimed from his breeder Nelson Bunker Hunt two on Nov. 18 for $40K by Repole Stake, won his second stakes
race in succession since the claim when he took the Grade 3 Toboggan at Aqueduct yesterday. The Kentucky bred is by Southerb
Image out of the Montbrook mare Fort Lauderdale. The 4yo colt came from Hoosier to be 2nd in a $50K claiming race at Belmont in October and was promtply dropped to $40K off that big run.
The colt is now 6 for 12 in his career.
The Langfuhr 7yo EUROEARS, at one time a rising star when he won the first 6 races of his career and was recording Beyer Figures like 110 has suddenly had an awakening. The gelding was moved from trainer Brett Calgoun last fal when the horse was wandering in longer races and under Bob Baffert, won the Palos Verdes yestergay over Smiling Tiger.

When he was an unnamed 2-year-old, he had an ear infection. One morning, he stuck his head out of his stall just as his owner, Jim Helzer, arrived at the barn. And Helzer, seeing the horse, asked, rehetorically of course, “How’s your ol’ ears?”
The groom, whose English was limited, thought the question was being put to him, not the horse. He thought he was being asked how the young colt was doing. He thought, in other words, that the horse was named Your Ol’ Ears, or, as the groom expressed it, “Euroears is fine.” And so, as Helzer tells the story, the big chestnut became known as Euroears.
HEAD HEART HOOF, a grey 5-year-old son of Intidab -Trustees Gray by Flying Chevron, set a track record at Aqueduct yesterday
for 5 1/2 furlongs, 1:03.50. The New York bred was winning for the 12th time in his 29 race career in the $10,000 claiming race and
it was his 5th win in succession for traine Chris Englehart. The gelding had been re-claimed by Englehart in July last year for
$7,500, won those 4 races and was in for $10K yesterday. The trainer is 45% at the Aqueduct meet too.
11-year-old GRAFTON was a winer at BEULAH PARK yesterday for $2,500 claiming. It was the 10th win for the Rahy gelding who was once claimed for $62,500 from Neil Drysdale.
HORSE RACING: Santa Anita’s new surface gets an early thumb’s up

We’re a little more than one-fifth of the way through Santa Anita’s winter-spring meet and the track’s new main dirt surface is receiving positive reviews overall.
That’s not to say there haven’t been some rough patches, but a pair of experts on the subject are pleased with the results through the first 17 days of the 76-day meet.
“I think the track’s OK,” said Dr. Rick Arthur, equine medical director for the California Horse Racing Board. “I would like to see it a little slower than it is. Just in my observation, they tried to put this track in too quickly. We had record rains in December and they haven’t had an opportunity to really learn how to maintain the race track.
“Every race track is different. We saw the same things with synthetics. I think they’re going to learn how to do it, and I think this track is going to get better.”
For the record, there had been two racing fatalities at Santa Anita through Monday, one in the afternoon and one during training.
There were nine horses vanned off through Sunday, none since Jan. 6, and at least one of the horses suffered a career-ending injury.But Arthur cautioned horses in California are vanned off purely for precautionary reasons.
