CONGRATULATIONS CARL VICKER – HANDICAPPING CHAMPIONSHIP WINNER

CARL VICKER won the Ajax Downs Handicapping Content final on Monday October 23 during a special VIP lunch and day at the races.

Vicker was one of 10 people who qualified for the final and took home a $2,000 prize. TOM MOGGA WAS SECOND AND WON $1,000 while JOHN IRWIN was third and took home $500.

 

Three wins by jockey BRIAN BELL and two by CASSANDRA JESCHKE on Monday Oct. 23 brought both riders to 31 victories for this year’s AJAX DOWNS QUARTER HORSE SEASON, within 3 of leading rider RAMIRO CASTILLO.

With one card remaining in the season, and the possibility of 10 to 12 races on the final day of racing, the title for leading rider is still up for grabs. Castillo is seeking his first title at Ajax after moving to Ontario from Alberta in 2016.

Bell, Ajax Downs’ perennial leading top two jockey for 16 years, won one of two Quarter Racing Owners of Ontario Overnight races worth $22,000 on Monday. The Bowmanville, ON resident rode COUNTRYS COMIN BAC to victory for 85-year-old owner and trainer Ralph Pearson of Whitby. It was the third win this year for the talented Countrys Comin Bac who has earned over $40,000 this year.

Pearson and Bell also combined to win with the 2-year-old filly ZOOMIN SPECIAL ANGEL, who won her maiden in Monday’s first race. The Ontario bred by Mr Jess Tex was bred by Pearson and it was her 4th career race.

Jeschke’s two wins came with the 2-year-old filly ELENORR, owned, bred and trained by Scott Reid. The steel  grey filly, also by Mr Jess Tex, won the co-featured QROOI Overnight Series race worth $22,000 in her fourth career race.

The filly was bumped around at the start and her hind end was pushed out away from her but she stormed on to defeat stakes winner TOO MUCH WHITE in the 350 yard dash.

Jeschke also won with George Coleman’s SPEEDOCRACY, bred by Katie Browne, who was winning for the second consecutive time for trainer Scott Reid.

Other winners on the day including the exciting filly NIGHT FISHN (also know as ‘Audrey’) won posted a 98 Speed Index for :15.500 for 300 yards. This is a powerful gal for owner and breeder MARY SCHRAMA and trainer Dan Giles. The 3yo by Sugarman Perry – Fisher Lines by Fishers Dash has won 3 in a row and has only raced 5 times. Josh Scott rode Night Fishn.

SUGARMANS DELIGHT won the day’s final race, an optional claiming event, with a 97 Speed Index for a time of :20.08 for 400 yards.

The 4yo is owned and was bred by Christine Tavares, currently the leading owner, and trained by Joe Tavares, the leading trainer. The son of Sugarman Perry was ridden by Chelsey Willick and he caught Valiant Stoli Time to win for 2nd time this year and the 5th timw in his 23 races. The Ontario bred has earned over $60,000 (Can).

CUSTOMER APPRECIATION DAY, OCTOBER 30

Ajax Downs will celebrate its fans on the final racing day of the season, next Monday, with a giveaways, food and fun on what is sure to be a big card of Quarter Horse racing.

The track will also celebrate United Way Day at the Races.

 

OWN A QUARTER HORSE!

If you want to get in on the excitement of owning a Quarter Horse, the Quarter Horse Owners of Ontario Inc. will be forming the 2018 syndicate soon.

The first year of its horse ownership syndicate, First Line Syndicate, came to an end on Oct. 23 when CR Party With Corona made her final start for the 18-person group (20 shares).

The flashy sorrel filly raced for 2 years for First Line Racing and she won 3 of 13 races for earnings of over $15,000.

Trained by Bob Broadstock, the filly will now be sold and the syndicate will purchase another horse for 2018.
