The how, why, and 'what’s next?' for Equine Canada now that its new bylaws have not passed.

Canada adopted a new Not-For-Profit Corporations Act in October 2011. The act compelled not-for-profits, including Equine Canada, to make a number of changes to their structures in order to become compliant. In 2012, EC put a new set of bylaws to its membership in an online vote. These bylaws met the requirements of the Not-For-Profit Act, but they failed to meet the expectations of voters, receiving an overwhelming ‘no’ from the tiny percentage of members who voted. EC then returned to the drawing board, redrafting bylaws that it was hoped would both pass a vote and be compliant with the Act. In February of this year, EC opened online voting for these new bylaws.
