Everyone loves a good meme ‒ and this latest viral meme has horse lovers especially tickled.
Known as the “ugly carousel horse”, the jaundiced-looking carved horse is making the rounds in various forms including as Napoleon’s steed in a post on X by IamHappyToast.
And as a sub for the real horse’s head in this The Godfather spoof from @ditzkoff:
But from whence did this ugly horse come? According to an internet investigation from a Forbes journo, it was supposed to blend into the background of a film still promoting the romantic drama We Live in Time starring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield.
In the still, the doomed couple (sorry, spoiler alert) are having a joyous and supposedly romantic moment during a carousel ride. Only the yellow carousel horse steals the show by photobombing the two stars.
What can we say, this hellish horse was so not going to blend into the background, foreground, or any showground either. It literally is all anyone sees when they look at the image.
