Woodbine Entertainment Group (WEG) today announced an initiative in an effort to enhance its Thoroughbred allowance race program at Woodbine.

Effective immediately, until the end of the meet on Sunday, December 7, WEG will give $1,000 to the owner per ship-in starter in allowance races. Eligible horses must be stabled and trained outside Ontario.

“This new program offers many benefits for both the horseperson and the racing customer,” said Steve Koch, WEG’s VP of Thoroughbred Racing. “It’s been our experience that out-of-town horsemen that race at Woodbine look forward to a return trip. This offer makes that travel even easier. For the racing customer, it will attract additional high quality and high profile horses, therefore delivering a more appealing wagering product.”

Woodbine offers $540,000 per day, including allowance purses that range from $56,000 up to over $100,000 including bonuses.
