Late ’80s and ’90s action star Jean-Claude Van Damme is back onscreen – but not in the type of martial arts flick that made him famous. This time the Belgian actor pairs up with his Chihuahua Lola in a new sci-fi game for mobile devices in which you save dogs in distress, while having a positive impact on the lives of real rescued dogs.

From the French gaming company, AwareCorp Studios comes VAN DAMME – Dawn of the Chihuahuas, a game that also raises funds for various animal rescue organizations around the world. Here in Canada, the Montreal SPCA, one of the first partners in creating the game, will be the first shelter to raise funds through the sale of in-game cosmetic accessories.

“I’m delighted to be taking part in this fantastic adventure game,” says Van Damme, “and to be supporting animal welfare, a cause close to my heart. I’ve always been a dog lover and I’m determined to help abandoned animals who need a second chance. Lola and I are delighted to be contributing to the success of a game that will not only entertain, but also make a real difference to thousands of vulnerable animals.”

According to the press release, the game is the result of more than a year of work between the Montreal SPCA, AwareCorp Studios, and Van Damme. “The game’s amusement park-like animal shelter was inspired by what the designers saw during their visit to the Montreal SPCA, wandering through our maze of ramps, floors, and animal areas,” explains Laurence Masse, Director of Philanthropic Development Communications at the organization. “We are very grateful for Jean-Claude Van Damme’s commitment to animal welfare and we hope to see this collaboration continue for many years.”

VAN DAMME – Dawn of the Chihuahuas is available today on iOS and Android, and can be downloaded free of charge from the App Store, Google Play and Huawei AppGallery.
