Vancouver, B.C. – Jockey Dave Wilson said Spaghetti Mouse “was set up perfectly for this race” and there was no disputing his words Sunday in the $107,8540 Grade 3 Lieutenant Governors at Hastings Racecourse over his favourite distance of 1 1/8 miles.

Spaghetti Mouse has now won five of his six starts at the distance after coming from slightly off the pace for a three-length win over longshot Timesless Passion.

“He worked really well going into the race,” Wilson said. “The extra distance suits him perfectly.”

Forceful Intention, finishing third, had earlier beaten Spaghetti Mouse in the John Longden 6000 at 1 1/16 miles.

“We were aiming for this race all spring,” said trainer Ned Sams. “He’s just a much better horse going this far and that’s where the money is.”

Spaghetti Mouse won $66,365 with the Lt. Governors victory for owners Nick and Pauline Felicella to bring his career earnings to over $620,000.

The Canada Day weekend winds down at Hastings Monday with a special 118th birthday celebration. The Vancouver Giants, winners of the 2007 Memorial Cup, will have the cherished piece of silverware on display throughout the afternoon.
