A second case of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) was confirmed by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) the week of October 23, 2017.

The 19-year old mixed breed mare, 11 months pregnant and unvaccinated for EEE, was from the District of Muskoka.

Neurological signs began as muscle tremors and hind end weakness and progressed rapidly to recumbency. The mare was euthanized.

The first case was reported on October 12th in Bruce County.
