The 2009 Horse of the Year, Rachel Alexandra, who underwent surgery on February 13th to repair a section of her small colon which was injured during foaling, is recovering well.

Veterinarians at the Rood and Riddle Equine Clinic in Lexington, Kentucky, where she was operated on, are pleased with her progress, but cautioned that she still has some obstacles to overcome.

The mare is no longer receiving an IV and has been able to spend some outdoors, going for short walks.

Her Bernardini filly is under the care of nurse mare, Miss Beautiful Ojos, at home at Stonestreet Farm.
