On Jan. 27th, Equestrian Canada (EC) issued a press release to inform the equestrian community that on Jan. 18, 2017, a positive case of Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) was confirmed by the Direction de la santé animale du Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation (MAPAQ) in the Lanaudière region of Quebec.

As a result of the positive horse, two stables in the Lanaudière area have been quarantined since Jan. 13, 2017. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is in charge of all control measures and is completing an epidemiological investigation and a trace-back to all horses that have come into contact with the positive case and who may be at risk.

Quebec has not had a positive case of EIA since 2011.

More details on EIA may be found on the CFIA website.
