It was no secret that Charlotte Dujardin’s gold medal winning partner, Valegro, would be sold following the 2012 London Olympic Games. Owners Carl Hester and Roly Luard have reportedly received sizeable offers from Europe, but the pair has indicated they wish to keep KWPN gelding in the UK. As such, they are seeking to form a syndicate to buy 49 per cent of the 10-year-old Negro son. They hope to raise the sum of £2.5 million by January 31st.

As word spread, one enthusiastic fan set up a Facebook page dedicated to collecting money in order to purchase a half share of Valegro. Hester has stated that neither he nor Luard were contacted about the effort, nor do they endorse it.

Meanwhile, Dujardin and Valegro were busy setting a new grand prix world record at Olympia, scoring 84.447% in the Reem Acra FEI World Cup competition on December 17th.

If, in fact, Valegro remains in British hands, the long-term goal will be competing at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
