It’s just one month until The Mane Event Equine Education & Trade Fair opens at Red Deer’s Westerner Park for 21/2 days of clinics, presentations and a trade fair with something for anyone with even a passing interest in horses. This year’s event, which runs April 25 – 27, 2008, has expanded to accommodate the interest generated by last year’s inaugural event at the Red Deer location. New sponsors, including Wrangler, United Farmers Association (UFA) and Lammles Western Wear & Tack, are joining the an extensive list of long time supporters such as Canadian Cowboy Country Magazine.
Once again the Mane Event offers a full slate of equine clinics, demonstrations and presentations and a rare opportunity to learn from internationally renowned clinicians and trainers, all experts in their specific area of equine interest. They include Frank Madden, one of the most successful trainers of young show jumping talent in the US, international dressage competitor and trainer Dr. Cesar Parra, the acclaimed reining and horsemanship competitor and trainer Stacy Westfall, driving expert Bill Lower, AQHA world champion Charlie Cole, one of Canada’s top horsemen, Jonathan Field, John Lyons’ Certified Trainers Doug and Kathy Vouchell, TTeam/TTouch clinician Robyn Hood, mule and donkey trainer Jerry Tindell, and bitting expert Bob Myler of Myler Bits..
The crowd favourite Trainer’s Challenge features Craig Cameron from Texas, Jon Ensign from Montana along with defending champion, Steve Rother (Oregon).. Over the 2½ days of the Event they will work with young unbroke horses from the Lukacs Ranch, culminating with a finals to demonstrate how their own particular training methods have been successful. They will be closely scrutinized by the judges, well-known Alberta horsemen John Scott, Mel Hyland and Ron Hoffman.
Saturday evening’s Equine Experience is a showcase of equine entertainment with something for everyone. This year’s highlights include demonstrations by Jonathan Field, breed demonstrations, drill teams, a dressage demonstration by Rebecca Cade, plus trick riding and equestrian vaulting. The equine trade fair, which this year has expanded to 115,000 sq. ft., is open throughout the entire 2 ½ days of the Event. It features tack, trailers, clothing for both rider and horse, plus supplements, barns, equipment and accessories.
The Mane Event opens at 12:00 noon on Friday, April 25 and runs throughout the weekend.
