On the heels of trainer Mark Casse and Live Oak Plantation’s Ricoh Woodbine Mile victory with World Approval two weeks ago, the winning connections celebrated another September stakes victory at Woodbine on Saturday with three-year-old filly Let It Ride Mom.

Returning to the scene of her Glorious Song Stakes win last November at the Toronto racetrack, Let It Ride Mom added the $100,000 La Lorgnette Stakes to her resume defeating 3-2 favourite Ghostly Presence in the final strides of the afternoon’s 1-1/16 mile co-feature.

My Arch Enemy (Gary Boulanger) led the field through fractions of :24.87, :49.92 and 1:14.18 with Ghostly Presence (Rafael Hernandez) stalking to her outside and Let It Ride Mom (Patrick Husbands) tracking the favourite. Lift Up (Eurico Rosa Da Silva) emerged from behind the front-runner approaching the final turn, but Ghostly Presence came back on in the three-wide path to strike at the top of lane. As she pulled ahead, Let It Ride Mom ranged up further out and collared the Roger Attfield trainee just before the wire to score in 1:43.58. Lift Up finished back in third.

“I was getting a nice stalking trip,” said Husbands. “She was enjoying it, her ears were pricked. I was just waiting for Hernandez to move. At the top of the lane, he moved and I got the chance to get outside of him and she showed me she was the best today.”

Bred in Kentucky by Tim Thornton, Robert Watt, Doug Glass & Greg Foley, the Into Mischief-Golden Marlin filly now has three wins and three second-place finishes from nine career starts with earnings just shy of $200,000.

“I’m so proud just to ride for Mark,” said Husbands, who was paired up with Let It Ride Mom for the first time in a race since her maiden-breaking career debut in July 2016. “He has so many nice horses and being given the opportunity to get back on this horse is unbelievable.”

“It worked out well,” said assistant trainer Kathryn Sullivan of the winning trip engineered by Husbands. “I thought he rode her really confidently. I could tell down the backstretch he was happy with where he was and how she was going. Coming into the turn, I thought it looked like he had a lot of horse and when he asked her to go she did. But Roger’s horse was just not giving up and that was a great finish. They both ran great races.”

In from Saratoga, Let It Ride Mom was sent postward as the 3-1 second choice in the wagering and paid $8.90, $3.60 and $2.80. She combined with Ghostly Presence ($3.20, $2.40) for a 6-5 exacta worth $25.60. A $1 trifecta of 6-5-2 (Lift Up, $3.80) paid $48 and a $1 superfecta of 6-5-2-1 (Crumlin Queen) returned $338. Silhouette, My Arch Enemy, Ellan Vannin and Enthrall completed the field.
