Queen’s Plate-eligible Intanga Rose chases her first added-money score in Sunday’s $125,000 Fury Stakes for Canadian-foaled three-year-old fillies, which headlines a fillies and mares only racing program at Woodbine to celebrate Mother’s Day.

The Stronach Stables’ homebred comes into the seven-furlong Fury, a key race on the road to the Woodbine Oaks Presented by Budweiser (June 8), and possible launching pad for a spot in the Queen’s Plate (June 29) starting gate, off a fourth-place finish in the Star Shoot Stakes on April 21.

Intanga Rose is listed at 18-1 in the Queen’s Plate Winterbook.

“She’s coming into this in really, really good order,” said Hall of Fame conditioner Sid Attard. “She broke a little slow and she had no horses outside of her in the Star Shoot, so it didn’t work out as we had hoped for. But she’s still learning. She’s learning more each day and we’re happy with how she’s heading into this race.”

Prior to the Star Shoot, Intanga Rose planted a pair of wins on her rivals.

On August 11, the daughter of Animal Kingdom made her debut, travelling five panels on the Toronto oval Tapeta. Under Eurico Rosa da Silva, the dark bay, second-last of 10 at the start, rallied to win by 1 ¾-lengths. Just over a month later, Intanga Rose made it two consecutive trips to the winner’s circle, notching a 2 ¼-length triumph at six furlongs on the Woodbine main.

“She’s a nice filly and she trains very well,” praised Attard. “She does everything that you ask of her and she does it very professionally. She’s in good shape coming into the race.”

Intanga Rose reminds Attard of a past champion in his barn, 2002 Woodbine Oaks winner, Ginger Gold.

A grey daughter of Golden Gear, the lifetime earner of over $1 million, bred and owned by the late Mel Lawson, was named Canada’s champion two-year-old filly in 2001 after three stakes wins, including the Grade 3 Natalma.

“Ginger Gold and her are very alike,” said Attard. “They both have a good temperament, they are both very easy to train and be around, and they both are talented.”

Trainer Mark Casse will have a trio of chances at victory, sending out Hastalavistababy, Speedy Soul and supplement Western Curl. The Hall of Famer won four straight runnings of the Fury, from 2011-14, and added another in 2017 when Enstone was victorious.

All seven fillies in the Fury are eligible to the $500,000 (1 1/8-mile) Woodbine Oaks Presented by Budweiser.

Last year, Summer Sunday won the 63rd edition of the Fury in a time of 1:24.17. She returned $4.20 for the win.

The Fury is Race 8 on Sunday’s 10-race card. First post time is 1:05 p.m. Guests at the racetrack on Sunday will receive 30 per cent off select Queen’s Plate tickets by visiting Guest Experience Central.
