Paul Mouttet’s Green Doctor set a sharp pace and kept on going to capture Sunday’s co-featured $150,000 Fanfreluche Stakes, at Woodbine.

Trained by John LeBlanc and aggressively ridden by Jesse Campbell, the bay daughter of The Green Monkey-Junior Prom Queen broke sharply and never looked back in the six furlong ‘Poly’ sprint for Ontario-bred juvenile fillies.

The Fanfreluche went to post with just five combatants when Pohdi Pohdi was scratched after arriving in the paddock leaving Galina Point, a recent private purchase by Gary Barber, as the 4-5 mutuel favourite.

Green Doctor broke quickest of all in the Fanfreluche and ticked off splits of :21.88 and :44.36 under pressure from Starless Night. Galina Point rallied from third position through the turn, but Green Doctor kicked away at the top of lane to win by a comfortable 1 1/4-lengths.

Galina Point stayed on for place, 7 1/2-lengths in front of Starless Night. Green Doctor covered six furlongs in 1:10.07.

Campbell, who guided Green Doctor to a similar front-running allowance score last time out, was not intent on making the lead.

“We were a couple of lengths in front and I tried to get her back, not that she was rank, but she was very comfortable so I just decided to leave her where she was,” explained Campbell. “I know the filly really well and the best thing about her is her mind. For a baby she’s very mature and really listens to the rider.”

Green Doctor, bred in Ontario by his owner, banked $90,000 in victory while improving her career record to 3-1-0 from six starts.

She returned $6.80 and $3.10, pairing with Galina Point ($2.50) for a $12.60 (2-1) exactor. A 2-1-4 (Starless Night) triactor was worth $33.10. Show wagering was not offered.
